WELCOME

Thank you for wandering into the world of Scentsy! If you love the warmth and fragrance that candles give, but aren't willing to compromise the safety of your family, then Scentsy is perfect for you.

With traditional candles comes significant risk to your home and your health. Isn't it time you let go of the flame, soot and toxins that are released into your house when burning candles? Scentsy truly is the better option for your home and your family. Open your world to wickless!

New Scentsy Bar and Scentsy Brick Packaging

Scentsy wax products will have a brand new look beginning in March 2010! To differentiate ourselves in the market

and protect the authenticity of Scentsy products, Scentsy Bars and Scentsy Bricks will now be packaged in clamshells

shaped like our Classic Warmers. In addition to differentiating us from any competitors in the market, the Scentsy

Bar will now weigh .8 ounces (23g) more than current bars: 3.2 ounces (90g) vs. 2.4 ounces (68g). That’s 33% more

product in each bar for the same $5 price ($6 CAN), in a beautiful and distinct design.

The weight of Scentsy Bricks will remain at 16 ounces (45g).

Renaming The Car Candle

We recently learned that another company has trademarked the term “Car Candle.” Because this company legally

owns the name “Car Candle,” we must rename our product. References to “Car Candle” must be removed from

Scentsy.com and Scentsy marketing materials, such as the new Spring/Summer 2010 catalog. For the Spring/Summer

2010 Catalog season, we will refer to the Car Candle as a Car Freshener – which describes one of its many uses.

We will deplete our current inventory of “Car Candles,” which means you may continue to receive “Car Candles”

between now and our Spring/Summer 2010 product launch on March 1, 2010.

Do You "BUY People Into Your Direct Selling Business

A couple of weeks ago I was interacting with this lady about joining Scentsy. After the Holidays I received an email from her saying she had signed up with someone else and now she wants to sign under me because she “never can get her sponsor to return her calls or emails.

I wrote her back and explained company policy on re-signing under someone else. I then asked – “If you don’t mind sharing, Why did you sign up with someone else?’ her response was she was offering “Join my team and get a free xyz.

Every day in the direct sales circle I see advertisements and announcements such as:
“Join my team and get a free xyz” and “Refer a consultant to my team and receive a free xyz.”

Isn’t it true that most direct sales companies have a starter kit and a business opportunity that are supposedly of great value containing all that is needed to start a home business? If that were truly the case, what message would a consultant be sending when offering an incentive or bribe to people to join her team? That the starter kit and/or business opportunity isn’t a good value?

Or would she be sending a message that she doesn’t believe strongly enough in her self as a leader to encourage people to join her team on merit alone? And in a general sense, who do you think redeems these types of bribes? People who firmly believe in the product, opportunity and sponsor and definitely want to be a part of the company or the people who are in it for freebies without regard to best value?

As a leader, would you rather have team members who are committed to making the business work; who firmly believe they are about to embark on a fantastic journey? Or someone who wants the freebies and who may or may not try the business to see how it goes?

Being a good sponsor helps set a high standard for our industry! Be that high standard!

HOW TO GET STARTED IN A DIRECT SELLING BUSINESS

If you are interested in becoming a direct selling consultant, here are the basic steps involved in getting started:

◦finding the right company
◦questions you should ask
Finding the right company

The first step is to identify a company and product or service that appeals to you. There’s no right or wrong answer, because the choice is different for every person. But, a good place to start is choosing a product or service that you use yourself.

Most established direct selling companies like Scentsy have web sites that you can visit. If you know anyone who works (or has worked) as a direct sales representative for the company, talk to them about his or her experiences in direct selling. If possible, try to talk with someone who has similar goals and objectives, so experiences and lessons will be comparable.

Be sure to ask as many questions as you need to get a good feel for the company, its products and its policies and procedures. If the person recruiting you can’t answer all of your questions call the company directly. All reputable DSA member companies will be happy and available to talk with you.

You might also want to check out what others have to say about the company. You’re sure to find a great deal of negative information about many companies online. Be sure to consider this information in the context of your research, but be careful about being swayed by biased information from unreputable sources. At the same time that the Internet has become a resource for gathering information, it also tends to be a breeding ground for negativity and information taken out of context.

Questions You Should Ask
Before you sign up, be sure to ask questions about the following:

1.Start up costs. The start up costs in direct selling companies are generally modest - usually the cost of a sales kit – and are often less than €100. Legitimate companies want to make it easy and inexpensive for you to start. On the contrary, pyramid schemes make their money through fees paid by new recruits or by loading inventory and/or training aids on them. High entry fees should be a warning sign.

2.Unsold inventory. Be sure to ask how much inventory (if any) you will be required to purchase and what the terms of return are if you decide to leave the business. Beware of opportunities that encourage buying large inventories of unreturnable products to reach achievement levels or receive a “special” or larger “discounted” price.

3.Compensation. Is the money you’ll earn based on the sale of products or services? The answer should be “absolutely.” This is a key element of a legitimate business. Direct selling, like other methods of retailing, depends on selling to customers who use and/or consume the product. This requires quality products and services sold at competitive prices in quantities that can reasonably be used and/or resold. Beware of any business that claims you can get rich by solely using their products or by recruiting new people into the business.
